Weekend trips are like mini-vacations that give us a break from reality, even if it’s just for a little while! If you’re heading out of town for a couple of nights, you’ll probably want to pack light while still being prepared.
Below, check out some tips on what to pack for your next weekend getaway so you can be comfy and look chic while traveling with just a carry-on.
One trick for simple packing is to bring versatile layers that you can mix and match with different outfits. Consider bringing items like a tailored jacket, a chambray shirt, or a light sweater that can be worn with tees, tanks, jeans, and skirts. Scarves or pashminas that can be used as a warm accessory or an evening over-the-shoulder shawl can also do double duty!
Depending on where your getaway takes you, you should generally bring a pair of comfortable shoes (sneakers, sandals, or boots), and a pair of dress shoes — bonus points for wearing one of them during your travels so you don’t have to pack them! You’ll be ready to walk around or have a nice dinner, plus your bag won’t be weighed down by excess footwear.
Since jewelry doesn’t take up much room in your luggage, consider bringing some of your favorite vintage designer jewelry pieces to dress up your basics. Flashy dangly earrings pop against any LBD, and a chunky layered necklace makes chambray look polished and chic. This is a great strategy to help you pack light so all you’ll need to bring is a weekender bag on your getaway. Consider bringing a luxury jewelry box to keep your valuables safe and damage-free!
If you’re only spending a night or two away, stick with the essentials when it comes to makeup. Eyeshadow and bronzer/highlighter palettes will take up less room in your bag than individual pieces, and a neutral gloss or balm will go with anything. You can even throw in one dramatic lip color if you have special plans … and don’t forget the face wash!
Portable hair care
Some styles are more high-maintenance than others, and if yours requires special shampoo, products, brushes, or heat tools, see if you can find mini versions of all your favorites! Many popular brands sell stuff that’s travel-sized, or you can purchase a set of refillable bottles that are carry-on compliant, which is handy if you’re flying. Packable hair straighteners and blow dryers that are small and foldable can easily be tucked into your bag without adding much bulk.
If your mane is more low-maintenance, stick to one brush and plenty of hair ties! You can even forego the shampoo and conditioner if you’re staying at a hotel that’ll provide some for you.
A wear-anywhere purse
Whether you live out of your tote bag or you prefer a hands-free crossbody, bring a purse that goes with all the outfits you packed for the trip. If you must, pack an additional small clutch or wallet that will hold your essentials for a night out on the town, or you can opt for a bag that can be dressed up or down!
