It’s Eid. A day that should be spent joyfully, in the company of your friends and family. Tables laid with delicious food, an aura of love and happiness in the air. But what if this day is marred with fear and anxiety? That is pretty much what our Kashmiris must be going through today and tomorrow and no one knows till when. As per my schedule, I should have posted an OOTD, I even had a festive ethnic outfit in mind but since this is my very own platform to express my views, I knew today must be dedicated to all those helpless people who are being held captive in their very own land.
In case you are not aware of the situation, I’m referring to the scrapping off of Article 350 by the Indian Government in the most unconstitutional way possible. Under this Article, Jammu and Kashmir held a special status regarding its federal setup, a status that somehow only existed in a name anyway. Plagued by military restraints, the beautiful state of Jammu and Kashmir, has not only been stripped off all its privileges but also it’s status of a state.
This is a major setback to the federal integrity of our country where the people of an entire state are being deprived of their basic fundamental rights. The people of J&K hardly have access to phones and internet connectivity has been completely cut off. But the ground reports say how people are struggling for basic necessaties.
What’s worse than all these restraints and zero communication? It’s the denial and ignorance that a majority of Indians are living in, supporting these atrocities and demeaning decisions of the government. Not to mention the justifications and the appalling comments such as ‘now we’ll marry Kashmiri girls’ as if those women are assets that can now be owned. Our country is going through a fascist phase, one that is terrifying for the minorities. This Eid, I request my readers to accept the position those people are in, our very own countrymen and stand up for their rights. Very soon, they’ll be short of food, their future so uncertain, living in a besieged valley, hoping to get some justice and relief from these terrible days.
