Is it just me or this is the longest winter ever? I don’t mind the low temperatures as much as I’m bored of the awful rains. What a dull weekend
this has been! So, here I am feeling super lazy but I really wanted to share my thoughts on a very important topic. Over the years, I’ve followed hundreds of fashion bloggers
and I’d the say the ones that inspire me the most are those who have their own signature style.
Over the past few years, trending fashion, fast fashion has been ruling the markets. Social media
such as Instagram
has been a major cause making girls try out every new trend that they can. Nowadays, there are brands and stores which take no time in bringing out the weirdest of things and people buy them for the sake of trying. As a result of all this, they tend to get lost in this overwhelming ocean of trends. While it is good to experiment with fashion, it is even better to have a stability in your overall style.
No one is born with their signature style
. It takes so many years to finally realise what you’re most comfortable in. And when you do, you must stick to it. Not everything is for everyone. For example, after several attempts, I realised that jumpsuits
are something that don’t flatter my body shape while clothes like midi skirts
and dresses do. I also feel very fashionable and comfortable in ethnic wear
, so I wear that a lot.
Keep trying till you know yourself and that’s when you’ll become an inspiration for others too.
Try not to get controlled by fast fashion
I understand that it’s overwhelming, new collections
every other week at affordable prices. But we also need to realise our responsibility towards the nature and not keep buying and discarding clothing at such a fast rate. brands and stores bring out every silly new trend and everyone just seems to get swept by the urge to try them out.
What’s the point in buying something that you’ll wear one or twice? I see influencers trying to justify purchasing all and everything which convinces teens and other young girls to keep buying whatever crap comes out in the market. I am also a consumer of high street fashion
but I try to buy only what I’ll get maximum wear out of.
Sticking to a signature style does not mean that you cannot evolve with the changing trends. The idea is to maintain the spirit of your style
but incorporating certain new pieces that will up your fashion game and not make you look or feel outdated.
For example, I’m a lover of ethnic outfits but that doesn’t mean that I’m not flexible enough to experiment around with my ethnic clothes. If you love wearing mini skirts
, you can even go for mini length pinafores etc. It’s just an example but I hope you get what I’m trying to say. Accessorizing your outfit with some trending pieces is a great way to not feel left behind whist maintaining the essence of your style.
Invest in some classic pieces
Instead of wasting money on things that you probably will regret buying after a year, save up and invest in something a bit expensive but which will stand the test of time. For example, you can invest in a good pair of black heels
or a designer bag
which you can wear with every other outfit and pull it all together. Or just those kind of quality clothes such as as jeans, some skirts etc which you can wear again and again maybe with a change of jumper
or blouses. Know what suits you the best and just go for it.
Coming to my outfit-
In this post I am in a very comfortable outfit which I often wear. I have worn this woollen black embroidered tunic . It’s a beautiful black jumper made of really fine material with some gorgeous white Kashmiri silk thread embroidery. The colour is suitable for winters. I wore it on a dark dull afternoon so paired it with a pair of bright red pants to give some pop of color. Accessorized my outfit with a bracelet and finished my look with a pair of black flat pumps.
