Christmas In My Memories
Merry Christmas to all
Christmas is all about decoration, lighting and happiness.Today in every part of world Christmas will be celebrated with delight and joy. Everyone celebrates Christmas in their own style. This day reminds me of my pleasant childhood memories of Christmas.
I used to live in Calcutta that time. We used to live in Jagdish Chandra Bose Road which was known as Lower Circular Road that time. This place is in the centre of the city. The building we lived in was very close to the Mother Teresa’s Missionary House. There were a lot of Christians living around us. We had a very close relationship with some families. We had many Christian friends too. There were two big churches that were known as the twin churches.
Before Christmas, the whole area was decorated like a new bride. Not only that locality, but the whole city used to get illuminated with lights, colourful bulbs and many Christmas trees. The decoration of the markets was worth seeing. This is the speciality of that city, whether it’s Durga Pooja, Eid or Christmas the city celebrates with the same spirit. You can’t imagine these things in any part of the world. Me my siblings used to enjoy all the occasions. We used to go markets and buy the small beautiful Christmas trees, Santa and colourful balls and golden bells.
The market was very crowded during that time. We were invited by our friends and the families we were close to.
On Christmas day, we children used to visit the church near my house. The church was fully decorated. A man dressed like Santa used to give children gifts and chocolates and the father in the church distributed holy books to everyone which contained a lot of things about Jesus Christ. All the children used to sing jingle bells together and played many games. We really used to enjoy a lot on that day.
We were most close to the Holland family who lived next door. She and her daughters were so kind and loving. The morning after Christmas, she always would come to meet us and bring a big box which contained a large cake, chocolates and many more items. I will never forget those beautiful days.
After my marriage, I have lived in many other cities but never saw such magnificence of this festival ever. These days wearing Santa caps, celebrating Christmas and wishing each other has become a fashion. We don’t reach to the soul of this holy day. We just want to enjoy everything and never make an attempt to know the purpose of celebrating the Christmas. If we try to understand the main purpose of any festival not only the Christmas, believe me, we can make this world better. We just try to know about our own religions never others. I spent my childhood and teenage in Calcutta and there I learned that all religions are as important as my own. I celebrated Christmas, Durga Pooja and Deewali just as I celebrated Eid. I know that that the message of all festivals are the same.
An evening at Community Center Delhi
That was a thrilling experience of my Delhi visit. It’s a very short 3 days visit. Every day was planned before and there was no scope of doing something more. That was the second day of our visit, my husband and I were so tired as we had spent the whole day at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. After having our evening tea, my sister suggested to go somewhere. I was feeling so tired but I didn’t refuse her because I wanted to refresh my mind with her.
We came to Community Center a place quite near from her house. We just wandered different places there. There was no purpose of this visit. We just talked and enjoyed the of each other. The place is decorated well for Christmas. My sister is master of fine arts and loves photography. I have mentioned it before in my previous post that how she always keeps her camera with her. While wandering about the market, we decided to take some pictures there. The problem was that there were a lot of people and I didn’t feel comfortable to get shot in public. When we started the result was not satisfactory due to my shyness. I told her to leave but she convinced me like a photographer that I should just focus towards the camera and forget everything around me. Her advice worked and we enjoyed that experience of our life.
My outfit was not perfect for the festive season but still okay. I was wearing a pair of blue ripped jeans, paired it with a burgundy high necked pullover. The pullover added some pop of colour to my outfit. I layered that with a long black coat. I finished this look with a brown bag and casual shoes.
Pullover – Mango

Once again, wish you all a Merry Christmas!
