Some Rules I follow During Fasting
Ramadan is the month which brings peace, mental and emotional relaxation for all of us. It’s a time of communion with yourself, a time to reflect on the way you nourish your mind, body, and the environment around you. This holy month gives us a chance to make ourselves better than we are. This is also a month you get closer to Allah than the other days.
I love keeping fasts ever since my childhood. I remember well that I had kept my first Roza when I was 7 years old. My son had done it at the same age and the surprising thing is that we both were happy during fasting. Felt more active, excited and please. Keeping fasts for a whole month has never felt tough for me. But earlier I only concentrated on the spiritual side of this month. While keeping fasts, offering Namaz, reading Holy Qur’an, doing the charitable deed and improving myself better as a human being had been my target for this month. But the thing that I always missed in those days was to take care of myself during fasts. I didn’t take care of my health, skin, hair and fitness. I often found myself weak and dull after Ramadan. Then I contemplated properly about the routine of my days and realized what I had been missing during those days for so many years.
The basic thing that I learned in those years is keeping myself healthy and active during these days. Once I realized, I started working on those issues and believe me, a simple self-care made a big difference. Now, I find myself healthier, fit, active and happier, even in such a hot weather.
I used to stop working out during fasts, but since 2 years I do some light yoga and a brisk outdoor walk in evening and I realized this small step made a clear difference. It not only energizes me but also keeps me fitter and active. Regular Namaz also keeps me active.
Take care of your diet
It’s the most important thing which I realized for these days. We only can eat at some particular times of the day but when we eat, it is necessary that we eat well. I don’t mean that you should eat in excess, make things healthier. I always make sure that my refrigerator is full of fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. Be it the time of Sehar or Iftar, I will always keep in mind that whatever I eat, it should be healthy. Usually, I take one glass of milk, boiled egg, two slices of brown bread and lots of water in Sehar. Sometimes a healthy and light smoothie with lot fresh fruits gives me great energy at that time. The same thing I always do in iftar, the most important thing for me at that time is to take a lot of water and fresh juice. I take a very light dinner and walk after that.
Maintain your skincare routine
It’s a very important task in this month. We can’t drink much water so our skin can face a problem of dehydration, especially in summer. My skin needs some extra care during fasting. I try to maintain my usual skincare routine, use a serum which holds moisture up and makes my skin supple and hydrating for a long time. I use a good moisturizer and facial oil to give my skin extra nourishment. Earlier I did notice that my skin looked faded and lifeless during those days then I realized that it all that due to Dehydration. So, I started to use a good exfoliating face mask regularly. This made a noticeable difference. A quick clean up of your skin every week revitalises it. A small effort makes a big difference.
Get closer to nature
I always love to get close to nature. During fasting, it makes me happier. I love taking care of my plants. Spending time in my garden, watering them, looking at the blooming flowers, listening to the sweet chirp of birds and absorbing the greenery inside my eyes are amazing experiences during fasting. Looking after my home and caring of indoor plants boost my energy and refresh my mind. If you have any pet, taking care of it will be a great and enjoyable thing during Ramadan.
Read something good
I think it’s the time to read something good. During fasting, you feel relaxed and calm, and it’s the best time to go with your reading habit. In addition to religious books, I love to spend my time in reading. It really keeps me cheerful.
Go with your hobbies
I don’t think that you need to ignore your hobbies during Ramadan. If you have time and have some hobbies so go with it. I love photography so whenever I get time, pick my camera and click what I love. I try to avoid social media these days because it takes a lot of time.
These are some simple rules that I follow during these days for my self-care. These refresh and energize my mind body and soul. I feel much active, fitter and full of energy.
Coming to my outfit:
In today’s outfit, I have worn an off shoulder/boat necked printed blouse. The print of this blouse is so beautiful and the fabric is so soft and comfy. It’s an off-shoulder blouse but you can wear it the other way too like me. I paired this blouse with green jeggings. I wanted to style these jeggings in this way and I’m happy with the result I got. Wearing jeggings in summer with different styles is not only stylish but also very easy and comfortable. It’s a nice style for girls when you want a break from your denims. Wore some light pieces of jewellery like hoop earrings and a delicate bracelet which I bought from Lulu & Sky. I finished my look with a pair of black heels and a golden bag. Hope you like this look.
