You all know how much I adore nude lipsticks, I can’t stop buying a new nude shade despite having a large collection of different nude lipsticks in my makeup drawer. A nude shade is always my first choice whenever I get ready for any occasion. A few months back, I bought Mac Velvet Teddy which I had been eyeing for a long time. Initially, I wasn’t sure if this shade would suit me so I went for the mini lipstick from Mini MAC. Now I can’t wait to write about my experience with this beauty so keep reading!
What the company says…
MAC describes Velvet Teddy as deep tone beige in Matte finish
In the mirror of my own experience
The lipstick comes in the regular Mac packaging which is black and silver and no doubt it’s proven to be a classy packaging. I bought this lipstick from their new mini products range and the little packaging of this lipstick looks so cute and is very lightweight to carry out anywhere.
The shade is deep beige along with a hint of peachy undertone. The color is quite unique in my opinion. It’s not brown but a beautiful mixture of brown, beige and peach quite, tricky to describe but this is the shade you will not get easily so finding a drugstore dupe is not that easy. I also love the name of the shade”Velvet Teddy” actually if look at the shade carefully, you will find it quite similar to a teddy bear’s color, light brown with a slight red and peachy undertones.
Before purchasing this shade I was uncertain and quite doubtful if this shade will suit my skin or not. Many Indian friends warned me to avoid this color as it may wash me out. After checking a lot of swatches and then swatching on my hands in the store, I finally made up my mind to give it a try. After wearing I got to know that it’s one of the best shade for fair to fair-medium skin tones. It will wash out tones darker than NC 40.
The texture of this lipstick is very creamy and silky. Mac Velvet Teddy is a matte finish lipstick and most matte lipsticks are drying on the lips but probably this is the most hydrating matte lipstick I have tried till now. It spreads out on the lips so evenly, there is no need to scrub your lips before wearing it but you have super chapped lips, you may do it especially in winter.
Mac Velvet Teddy is superbly pigmented, just one swipe is enough to obtain its right color and cover the lip’s pigmentation. I love the color which I get after the first and second swipes. More swipes make the shade more brownish which I don’t like.
If I talk about the finish of this lipstick, I just fell in love with its finish since I have worn it for the first time. In my opinion, it’s one of the best nude lipstick I have ever tried. It feels velvety smooth while applying on the lips but turn into a perfect matte after a while. It never makes my lip dry. The best aspect of this lipstick is that I can wear it with any outfit even with red. Whenever I find myself confused in choosing a lipstick shade for my outfit, this is the one I reach out for.
MAC Velvet Teddy has a good staying power, however, I can’t compare it with that of Ruby Woo. It stays for about 4-5 hours on my lips easily. After that, it begins to fade evenly and leaves a lovely faded hue on the lips which looks so natural and pretty.
